Utah is one of the most beautifully diverse states when it comes to outdoor landscapes. From forests, to arches, to hot springs, to mountains, to many more in between; you can’t go wrong visiting any outdoor location in Utah. The first problem? Deciding on where to visit. The second problem? Too many people. Like many popular outdoor adventure locations, it can sometimes feel like an attraction where too many people ruin the tranquility of nature. Or there are too many people that you cannot fully take in your surroundings. If you are tired of crowds ruining a beautiful view, you might want to rethink your go to outdoor adventure location. Luckily, Utah is home to many beautiful and somewhat secret paradises.
If you are in the mood for getting dirty while climbing through some rock formations, head out to Southern Utah to Goblin Valley State Park. While most people are going to Arches or many of the other beautiful hotspots in Southern Utah, Goblin Valley sits there waiting to be explored. Goblin Valley lives up to the name, it’s littered with eroded red and brown rock formations that transport you to a different planet. The weathered structures make you feel like you are marching through the sands of Mars. Even though red and brown are seemingly dull, once you immerse yourself in the landscape the shades of rust and copper engulf you in the best way possible. The number of trails will keep you occupied for days and minimize the number of humans you come into contact with. Goblin Valley should be on your list of outdoor adventure locations.
If you are in the mood for a remote escape, head over to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Now, even though The Salt Flats are a popular destination to take stunning photos; it is so much more than a background to a photo shoot. The Salt Flats are just begging to be explored, I suggest you take some time to dive into the extensive salty landscape. The Salt Flats are a great destination if you are looking for a place to unplug from everyday life. The lack of cellphone service and amenities makes this location perfect for those folks who just want to spend time in a place where you can explore for hours unbothered. The blinding white terrain feels ethereal. I suggest sticking around until sunset for an even more breathtaking scene. Pinks, purples, and yellows dance off the white backdrop and it’s like art come alive. There is a reason that the Salt Flats are a destination for international travelers. If there is anything to note it would be, please dress and pack accordingly- there are no amenities in the Salt Flats, but it sure is worth going remote for.
If you are in the mood for getting lost in lush greenery and tall shady trees, check out Silver Lake Loop Trail. Green and lush hiking trails are a common occurrence in Utah, but most people overlook Silver Lake. This spunky paradise has many trails and things to explore, which means that less people are likely to be on the same trail as you. The hike to the lake itself is short, about a 2-mile round trip, but the beauty is abundant. Wildflowers of all colors pop up on the trail as if to welcome you to the seemingly untouched surrounding. The extensive vibrant greenery makes the air crisper and cleaner. The untouched and wildness of the surroundings guides you to the lake taking you on a great adventure. The lake itself is full of life and personality. If you are lucky, ducks may come and greet you or butterflies might come and kiss your skin. And if you are really lucky, woodland animals might scurry past you on the trail. Silver Lake is truly a destination.
The above destinations are just a minimal spec of what is out there to explore in Utah. You really cannot go wrong anywhere you choose to explore. There is a landscape for whatever mood you are in, you just have to be brave enough to find it and let it guide you on an adventure. There are so many places that are just aching to be explored. Lace up those hiking boots, pack some snacks and a first aid kit, grab a buddy, bring some water and get outside. Utah is waiting for you.
